The update to iOS 4.2 that rolled out last Monday went pretty smoothly, but there were many cases of people who updated to 4.2, then seemingly lost all their music. My own iPod touch was affected, but luckily there’s a quick fix available.

After upgrading to iOS 4.2.1, I noticed my visual voicemail wasn’t working. The phone app kept asking for my password. Well, I don’t know my voicemail password anymore, and I suspect I’m not alone. Here’s how to fix it if you’re in the same boat.

I’ve seen the videos online of iOS 4.2 running smoothly on an iPhone 3G, but we did not get iOS 4.2 yesterday, we got iOS 4.2.1. I ran the update through its paces on my 3G to see if performance did indeed improve.

Apple announced the impending release of iOS 4.2 for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. The update will be available today through iTunes at 10:00 a.m. Pacific, or 1:00 p.m. Eastern. A new feature page has been posted at Apple’s site ahead of the release.

Apple just pushed out iTunes version 10.1 via Software Update. The update brings the ability to use AirPlay to stream video from iTunes to the new Apple TV, the ability to sync with iPhone, iPad or iPod touch devices running iOS 4.2, and stability improvements.

The iOS 4.2 update could be delayed until at least next Tuesday, Nov. 16, according to a new report by iPhoneHellas. The new date contradicts earlier rumors that we would see the update arrive today, Nov. 12. Ample evidence suggests good reason for the delay.

In an article on AppleInsider, Josh Ong details changes in the upcoming iOS 4.2 update. It seems to blur the line between MobileMe and a user’s Apple ID. It’s a subtle addition, but it might just be the seed of a revolution in personal computing.

In conjunction with the iOS 4.2 beta, Apple has issued a press release touting “AirPrint.” The trendily named wireless printing feature for iOS will be included with iOS 4.2. AirPrint will initially work with HP ePrint printers or shared printers on a PC or Mac.

Reiterating much of the iOS presentation by Steve Jobs, the new web page adds a few details to what iOS 4.2 brings in November. As Steve Jobs said, “it’s all about iPad,” and that’s a shame because it should be about the cloud.
